Triploid Amur are used to control unwanted pond weeds and moss. Some of the facts about them include:
Amur eat unwanted weeds in most ponds, these may include but are not limited to; curly leaf pondweed, waterlily. Coontail, waterweed, muskgrasses, watermilfoil, water celery, floating pondweed, cattails, and many other pondweeds. Amur will eat fish food and grass clippings. Amur are NOT common European carp and are not bottom feeders that make muddy water or disturb sport fish nesting. Feeding from the top down is common for Amur. Amur live up to 25 years but may need to be restocked in 5 to 10 years. Amur are usually cheaper to buy than chemicals for control of weeds in a pond. Feeding in swimming areas is not a thing Amur will normally do and shy away from people in the water with them. The normal stocking rate for Amur is 10 to 30 fish per acre of water. In Indiana Amur must be pond delivered by a supplier. Copper sulfate is usually fatal to Amur in ponds and should not be placed in water where Amur reside.
