The signature event of Lotus Blossoms, the World Bazaar welcomes children from the Bloomington community.

Saturday is Family Day at the Lotus Blossoms World Bazaar — a free event for kids and parents.

Volunteers from the Bloomington community (and around the world) present arts, music, language, and international crafts that let kids get their hands on the world. Please note: schedule and activities are subject to change:

  • Live peformances IU Gumboot Dancers (11:10-11:30); Rama Cousik and Ragaranjani (11:45-12:10); Jungle Joe's Flea Circus (12:30-12:50); Ritmos Latinos salsa dancers (1:10-1:3o); and the Jaguar Drum Group

  • Arts and crafts give kids plenty of opportunities for free expression. Activity stations include Lotus mask and banner making, the Mathers Museum of World Cultures (Latin American paper flowers & Hawaiian leis; musical instruments), T.C. Steele Historic Site mural painting, sand mandalas and windhorse flags from the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center

  • Interactive demonstrations include Middle Eastern dance, sand mandalas, exotic fruit from Bloomingfoods, face (or hand) painting, "global graffit" large-scale weaving, Eastern European egg decoration, musical instruments from around the world, multi-lingual calligraphy, Asian crafts and games, gourd musical instruments by "gourd lady" Sue Westhues, the Mathers Museum (musical instruments from India, toys from around the world); stories, games, beadwork, and traditional art forms of Native North America; Zimbabwean mbira with master musician Cosmas Magaya

  • Interactive info stations and material for educators feature Exploring Japan, the Bloomington Arab American Society, Indiana University Early Childhood Services (activities for pre-schoolers), IU Outreach centers, Native American Community Center
