Lorna was knowledgeable of the health message that had been given to and promulgated by Seventh-day Adventists for almost 150 years, but, like many of us, she had not always heeded its principles. She grew up hearing how important health is to Seventh-day Adventists as part of the gospel message of worshipping and glorifying God in Spirit and in Truth not only with our minds and in our spirits, but also in our bodies, for our bodies are “the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God, and you are not your own. For you are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
(1Cor. 6:19,20).

As many of us often do, Lorna took her health for granted until her sight began fading and she faced a future of total blindness. Lorna discovered that she suffered from a degenerative disease called Stargardt’s Dystrophy, a slowly progressive ailment that causes macular degeneration in the eye that eventually leads to total blindness.

Lorna experienced the heartbreak of experiencing the deterioration of her eye sight, as objects once seen clearly became dimmer and dimmer and focusing became more of a desperate challenge. Recovery of this most precious sense was not an option offered by her doctors. There was simply nothing they could do. Increasing the intensity of her lens over time and awaiting the inevitable left her dispirited and down-hearted. Driving became hazardous. In fact, sight decreased in one eye to 20/400. Within two years of onset, she was declared legally blind and her driver’s license was revoked. She was only 41.

At a very low ebb in her life, she had no idea how her faith was about to be tested severely and then even lifted to heights she could only imagine. After a whole year of increasing depression something truly amazing happened. She was about to experience the healing power of God’s Love.

Thomas Jackson had been invited to Lorna’s home church to share the benefits of GOD’S PLAN for abundant and healthful living. On a Sabbath afternoon at the Brampton SDA church, she heard the energetic testimony of Thomas Jackson whose life had been changed through natural healing. Jackson suffered from a crippling case of rheumatoid arthritis which forced him to give up a promising and lucrative career as a professional basketball player. He turned to the Bible for help and there found principles of health that he applied to his life with miraculous results. Since then he has been sharing with God’s people everywhere how a simple lifestyle worked for him giving a testimony of Bible Health Principles with the insights into them from the work of Ellen White. Now, well over 20 years later, Jackson’s testimony was to mark the turning point in Lorna’s life.

Lorna’s own miracle only became possible as she hesitantly, at first, but eventually wholehearedly began
to adopt the eight laws of health, discarding sugar, meat, and all dairy products and embracing the positive recommendations that were detailed simply in GOD’S PLAN:  Godly trust, Open air, Daily Exercise, Sunshine, Proper rest, Lots of water, Always temperate, and Nutrition. Could these simple remedies be the cure for devastating blindness? Despite the lack of hope emanating from Lorna’s doctors, she decided to give GOD’S PLAN her total trust; after all she had nothing to lose and everything to gain. After months of no apparent change, things began to happen that she knew could only be explained by her explicit trust in God and total obedience to His health laws. The restoration happened gradually but undeniably, as silhouettes became distinct objects and the haziness of her sight cleared. Her family noticed the change and she excitedly, if not disbelievingly, accepted the reality of what was happening. The vision before her was no longer enveloped in blurred images. She was actually seeing again.

Her faith brimming, within a few months Lorna was able to reinstate her driver's license. Her testimony is unstoppable from being brought back from the brink of darkness, physically and spiritually, into God’s marvelous light. She can testify that God’s message of hope and healing as revealed in His eight laws of health from the Book of Heaven, really works! Believing is seeing!

“Beloved, I wish above all things that you might proper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.” (3John 2).

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, And all that is within me, Bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all the benefits of Him Who pardons all your sins, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with love and compassion, Who satisfies your desire for good things, So that your youth is renewed to soar like the eagle.” (Psalm 103: 1-5).
