A common question about services is what will happen during an eye exam. Please be prepared to give answers about your medical history and your family's medical history. We have found that the eye is only part of system , much more can affect your eye health than people think. Genetics plays an important factor. The following details will give great help in my exam and your eyecare.
How is your general health?
When was the last time you talked with your physician and what did your doctor tell you?
Does your family have any health problems?
Does any family member have glaucoma or lost their vision?
What medicines do you take?
Are you allergic to any medicine?
To test your visual acuity, we will:
Test the six muscles of each eye which control your ability to fixate your eyes upon a target.
Test how straight your eyes are in their relaxed and active positions.
Make sure your pupils react to light.
Test your color vision.
Test your 3-D stereo vision.
After accessing and documenting this information we will start measuring
your distance vision with the correction currently in your spectacles. If
needed, we will measure your vision at reading distance with your glasses.
We will then measure your old glasses to get a baseline prescription.
Now I can:
Provide an accurate assessment of your vision using the newest Topcon refractor.
Examine the eye with a microscope to assess externally and internally for signs of disease.
Measure the pressure in your eyes to aid with a total glaucoma screen.
Dilate your pupils to make visual access to the internal workings of your eye, such as the optic nerve, blood vessels, retina and the vitreous.
After the exam we will discuss my findings and recommendations. We will explore all paths and options, deciding what will be best for your individual treatment.
I will always be accessible for your questions concerning your eye health.
