RALPH B., OF STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN, TAKES A DC-3 JOURNEY!
*
*
Ralph B. not only took a flight in a DC-3 in Sweden, but provided us with these fabulous shots of the aircraft. Believe it or not, the grass field behind the Gooney to the left is an 800 meter strip this aircraft took off from!
First stop was to get gas! Must have been REAL low on fuel to take off on grass in 800 meters!

CLOSE-UPS OF THE PLANE
*
*
Note the C-47 Cargo Door: This plane went through the war!
*
*
A LOOK INSIDE THE COCKPIT
*
*
*
*
This is a very old-fashioned DC-3 set-up, very much like the FS2004 DC-3 Panel, but with VORs and radios added.
There is also - I think - a GPS system just above the throttle quadrant.
Does the AP look familiar? It's a Sperry Mark III and I assume that it works, as its attitude indicator matches the main attitude gauge in both shots. Notice in the photo to the right that a DIFFERENT attitude gauge (this one is blue) is used than on the Captain's side to the left.
Also a different instrument arrangement in general for the co-pilot - No VORs, only primaries (can't find the turn indicator), but with additional engine gauges.
Gee, I think I feel a panel coming on . . .
*
AND I COULDN'T RESIST: MY VERSON OF THIS DC-3's PANEL:
*
*
*
THE FIELD                                                                          THE SKIPPER
*
*
800 METERS OF GRASS - WITH HILLS AND TREES . . . .                      AND . . .       A VERY HAPPY VIKING!
*
The skipper should be happy - he not only flies this beauty, but also OWNS it.
*
READY TO GO!
*
*
IF THAT WING VIEW LOOKS FAMILIAR, IT IS BECAUSE THIS IS THE VERY SAME AIRCRAFT ANOTHER PHOTOGRAPHER SHOT - AND ALLOWED US THE RIGHTS FOR OUR VP DC-3 WING VIEWS!
*
GETTING GAS!
*
*
REGULAR OR UNLEADED?
*
*
Fueling up at Bromma (ESSB), then taxiing away from the gas pump. The skipper at work.
*
OVER STOCKHOLM
*
*
Stockholm, as seen through the cockpit window - notice the bulbous NOSE in the photo to the right - and from the cabin.
If that wing view is not VERY familiar to you, you are NOT a true Val-U-Propper!
*
*
A tour of Stockholm: An old fortress on an isle: Engine still purring; wing still on!
*
*
Right rear view of Stockholm's island archipelago: The co-pilot has a nice view; looks like a storm brewing!
*
*
A beautiful shot of the archipelago before returning to our field.
*
*
Losing some altitude: Then a fairly steep turn back to the field.
*
*
Coming in for the landing - safe on the field.
*
*
A HAPPY FLYER! Note the entrance ladder - C-47 style!
